Skoodat Image is One of AppQuest's top 16 apps in the World!

Skoodat-85149343
Our 'Nooga friends at Skoodat have entered their Skoodat Image app (two minute YouTube presentation here) into Salesforce.com's 2011 AppQuest global competition and were just named one of the top 16 apps in the world! The next phase of the competition is taking place on Facebook's space. The 16 remaining apps are all displayed on AppQuests wall and the top 8 "like" getters will move on to next phase of the competition. All you have to do to help out is "like" the AppQuest page, then like Skoodat's post on the wall and tell all of your friends to do the same thing, capiche?

Skoodat Image is an app that allows for images to be taken via mobile phone and instantly viewed on a map within any application built on the Force.com platform. The image isn't the only thing that is stored though! Global positioning data, time stamp information and a map showing the location where the photo was taken are all viewable. Images can also be sent to the platform via email.

In short, this is a very cool app with many possible applications, it has the opportunity to get a great start with your help in this competition, and it's coming out of our very own Chattanooga, TN!

Check out their YouTube presentation (if you haven't already) and head over to Facebook to cast your vote for our Chattanoogan Skoodat!

Tennessee Loves Startups

Starting-tennessee
Earlier this month, a group of private and public organizations, entrepreneurs, investors and businesses gathered at the Entrepreneur Center in Nashville to launch Startup Tennessee, Tenessee’s statewide initiative to support entrepreneurs and help startups drive job creation. The Entrepreneur Center is the city’s leading accelerator program, providing incubation space, mentors, and various resources to help entrepreneurs turn ideas into investable businesses. Startup Tennessee is the second regional initiative working with the Startup America Partnership, the private sector program celebrating and accelerating entrepreneurs across the country.

“As we develop our entrepreneurial ecosystem in Tennessee, Startup Tennessee will help to better coordinate statewide innovation activities, promote entrepreneurship and enhance Tennessee companies’ access to early-stage capital,” Governor Bill Haslam said at the launch. “My priority is for Tennessee to be the No. 1 location in the Southeast for high-quality jobs.”

This initiative is excellent and unique because, by leveraging the Startup America Partnership’s national network, Tennessee’s entrepreneurs will gain access to business resources throughout the state and country, enabling them to grow faster, be more competitive and create more jobs.

“I’ve been incredibly impressed by the remarkable entrepreneurial leadership here in Tennessee,” said Scott Case, CEO of the Startup America Partnership. “We look forward to working with you all to take the startup ecosystem to the next level and creating the jobs of the future in Tennessee.”

The program already has commitments from a wide range of Tennessee-based companies and organizations to provide assistance to entrepreneurs in the following areas:

  • Expertise: Connect entrepreneurs with training, mentors, advisors and accelerators
  • Services: Provide entrepreneurs access to critical services at reduced costs
  • Talent: Assist entrepreneurs in recruiting and training the people that can help them grow
  • Customers: Help to scale startups through new and existing markets
  • Capital: Highlight sources of capital available to entrepreneurs in various regions and sectors

The launch of this program is a great leg up for Tennessee startups - stay tuned to its progress. Also, check out Nooga's writeup of the event.

Familiar Face from 48hour Launch: Cumberland Signal Labs

- by Joe Ellis

Look who popped up at venturenashville.com, Chattanooga entrepreneur Richard Hardin! We've seen this guy around the Company Lab a time or two and now we're starting to see him all over the place, and for good reason.

His company, Cumberland Signal Labs has gained some serious momentum after winning the $5000 prize at our 48Hour Launch event. It is going around that the wiring hub he invented for aircraft will revolutionize instrumentation maintenance and significantly decrease aircraft downtime and it seems everyone agrees: he has a "game changing" product.

Standing in the way of this take over is Certification by the FAA who has to test the device by it's standards before it approves it for use. In the mean time, Richard is talking with industry officials and working on an avionics-signal diagnostics tool. Cumberland Signal Labs has secured funding in excess of $100,000 to continue research and development and other business operations.

It's awesome to see Chattanooga entrepreneurs succeed! To follow this amazing story keep an eye on www.cumberland.sl, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Folkwriters' Forum Formed

- posted by Jonathan Mansfield

Logo_folk_school_chattanooga

Did you know Chattanooga has its very own folk music school? Did you know that this awesome folk school has a SpringBoard graduate as one of the founders and teachers? It's all true.

The Folk School of Chattanooga was founded in 2009 and is now located in Northshore, a product of Matt Evans and Christie Burns' passion for folk music.

Recently, the Folk School of Chattanooga has begun hosting a Songwriter's Forum where songwriters can work on everything from chord choice to phrasing. Check out Nooga.com's article to get the whole scoop (this is only a half scoop).
